Little Compton street
Standing on a small traffic island in the middle of one of the busiest roads in central London, we looked down through a thick metal grate to a see a street sign, blue and white, bearing the name Little Compton Street. Just below this you can make out the same name, painted in thin lines of black paint: Popular theories from many blogs and other online resources all suggested that Little Compton Street had been destroyed with the construction of Charing Cross Road in 1877. (Apparently, Rimbaud and Verlaine used to drink in a pub on Little Compton Street during their dramatic London stay.)
