Az Árpád-korban Ócsa térsége királyi birtok volt, ezért feltételezhető, hogy az ócsai premontrei apátságot az egyik Árpád-házi király alapíthatta. Erre utalhat a templom belsején látható freskók egy része is.
A 12-13. század fordulóján a helyén egy kis falu állt, amelynek lakóit odébb költöztették, amikor megindult az építkezés.
A 16. század közepén részben a török veszély, részben a reformáció előretörése miatt hagyhatták el a kolostort a szerzetesek. A templomot és a romladozó kolostorépületet a 17. századig használták a reformátusok. 1675-ben a templom már fedetlenül állt. 1702-ben még tovább romlott a helyzet. A katolikusok megpróbálták visszaszerezni a templomot, sikertelenül. A reformátusok Mária Terézia királynőtől végtére engedélyt kaptak a templom rendbe hozására, ennek során azonban sajnálatosan elpusztult sok középkori részlet is.

In the Árpád era, Ócsa area was a royal estate, so it is assumed that the abbey of Ócsa Premonstratus was founded by one of the Árpád-home king. This can be seen in some of the frescoes on the inside of the church.
At the turn of the 12-13 century there was a small village in its place whose inhabitants were moved away when the construction started.
In the middle of the 16th century, the monks were allowed to leave the monastery partly due to the Turkish threat and partly to the Reformation. The church and the ruined monastery were used by the Calvinists until the 17th century. In 1675 the church was uncovered. In 1702, the situation further deteriorated. The Catholics tried to regain the temple without success. The Reformed churches were given permission to restore the church after Queen Mary of Theresa, but during this time, regrettably many medieval details of it has been devastated.
